Dropped Gundurao made KPCC working president

The announcement was made by Congress general secretary Janardan Dwivedi in New Delhi.

BENGALURU: Mr Dinesh Gundu Rao, who was among 14 ministers dropped from the cabinet on Sunday, was appointed working president of KPCC on Monday. The announcement was made by Congress general secretary Janardan Dwivedi in New Delhi.

The appointment of Mr Dinesh Gundu Rao as working president could well deny energy minister D K Shivakumar KPCC president’s post though he has been lobbying for it in recent months. And if the plan drawn up by CM Siddaramaiah and his camp followers comes through, former IT & BT minister S.R. Patil could be appointed the new PCC president.

Son of the late CM R. Gundu Rao, Dinesh Gundurao, a four-time MLA and spokesperson of the party, grew popular as president of the state unit of Youth Congress in late ‘90s.

He worked to establish his network during his long stint as state Youth Congress president. During the same period, he also got elected as MLA from Gandhinagar constituency and has retained his seat since 1999. He played a crucial role in just before 2013 Assembly polls, taking on the powerful Reddy brothers of Ballari.

High drama at Vidhana Soudha over Ambareesh’s resignation
High drama prevailed at Vidhana Soudha on Monday over the 'resignation' of Mr M.H. Ambareesh from the Legislative Assembly after he was dropped from the council of ministers.

When acting Speaker of the Assembly N.H. Shivashankar Reddy was addressing the media, two persons, claiming to be close followers of the actor-politician, barged into the office to hand over Mr Ambareesh's 'resignation'. They claimed that their leader had resigned from the Assembly and wanted to hand over the letter to the Speaker.

Mr Reddy, who saw the letter, said the resignation would be accepted only if Mr Ambareesh handed it over personally. The resignation letter sent through others would not be accepted.

"Please ask Mr Ambareesh to come in person and give the resignation".
On hearing this, the duo left the chamber promising to bring Mr Ambareesh to the Speaker's chamber later.
