Zilla and Mandal Parishad polls to be held on May 6

As per the schedule, elections would be held to 212 ZPTCs and 2,365 MPTCs in the first phase on May 6.

Hyderabad: The State Election Commission released the official notification for the zilla and mandal parishad elections on Saturday, setting the scene for yet another poll in the state.'

The three-phase polling will begin on May 6. Results will be out on May 27, four days after the results of the general elections are declared.

As per the schedule, elections would be held to 212 ZPTCs and 2,365 MPTCs in the first phase on May 6. The notification for the second phase, covering 199 ZPTCs and 2,109 MPTCs, will be issued on April 26 and polling would be held on May 10.

For the third and final phase of 124 ZPTCs and 1,343 MPTCs, notification will be issued on April 30 and May 14 is the polling day.

Election will be not held to Mangapet ZPTC and the mandal parishad presidents seats of Jadcherla, Burgampahad, Bhadrachalam and Mangapeta due to court cases. The expenditure for candidates contesting the ZTPC elections was fixed at `4 lakh and `1.5 lakh for MPTC candidate.s The model code of conduct will continue till May 27.

Polling will be held in 32,007 polling stations. As many as 26,000 police personnel will deputed for the polling. As many as 1.56 crore voters are eligible to vote in the elections.

State Election Commissioner V. Nagireddy said the EC was ready with gaint ballots which can accommodate the names of 400 candidates. He said pink ballot will be used for MPTC polls and white ballots for the ZPTC elections.

Polling will be held in one phase in Medchal-Malkajgiri district and two phases in Jagityal, Karimnagar, Peddapalli, Sircilla, Gadwal, Mahbubnagar, Narayanpet, Ranga Reddy, Vikarabad and Warangal Urban districts.

Elections will be held in three phases in Adilabad, Asifabad, Manchiryal, Nirmal, Kothagudem, Khammam, Nagarkurnool, Wanaparthy, Medak, Siddipet, Sangareddy, Kamareddy, Nizamabad, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Bhongir, Jangaon, Bhupalpally, Mahabubabad, Warangal Rural and Mulugu districts.
