Datta owes Rs 7 lakh to BJP's Jeevaraj
CHIKKAMAGALURU: The statement of assets and liabilities that candidates file along with their nomination papers often reveals interesting details.
One such statement filed by BJP MLA D.N. Jeevraj reveals that JD(S) MLA Y.S.V. Datta is yet to return Rs 8 lakh he had borrowed from Mr Jeevraj. The BJP MLA too makes a note of it in his assets and liabilities statement.
Mr Jeevraj and Mr Datta are from Chikkamagaluru. While Mr Jeevraj represents Sringeri constituency, Mr Datta is sitting Kadur MLA.
Mr Jeevraj told Deccan Chronicle that the JD(S) leader approached him in 2010 for ' 8 lakh to attend to some emergency work. The money was paid through a cheque, he said adding that Mr Datta was an MLC at that time.
Though, time elapsed, Mr Datta never bothered to return the money though notices were issued to him, claimed the BJP legislator. “I have appealed to Mr Datta to return the money. But nothing has happened.”
Mr Jeevraj added that he had even mentioned about the loan to Mr Datta in his 2013 affidavit and also to the Lokayukta while submitting his statement on assets and liabilities.
“The money lent to Mr Datta is yet to be recovered and therefore, I have mentioned it in my affidavit at the time of filing nominations for Sringeri,” he said.
Sources said Mr Jeevraj could have initiated drastic steps to recover the amount but did not want to damage the dignity of a legislator.
Mr Datta was not available for comment o the non-payment of the amount to Mr Jeevraj.
