Khushbu meets M Karunanidhi at his residence
Chennai: DMK president M. Karunanidhi’s Gopalapuram residence door was once again thrown open to welcome Khushbu on Wednesday. It was the first time she visited her political mentor after being ‘banished’ from the DMK in June 2014, reportedly due to serious differences with party prince M.K. Stalin amid reports that she was getting close to his father.
Even after that, Khushbu often praised Karunanidhi in public and fondly recalled his affection for her, and her undiminished reverence for the mentor. Terming her meeting with Mr Karunanidhi a courtesy call, she told reporters that she owes her rise political career to DMK chief.
“I always have respect for him. Two years after I quit DMK, I am meeting DMK leader in his residence for the first time. Whatever I am in politics, it was because of him. When I joined DMK, I didn't know anything about politics. It was him who taught me about politics,” she said, adding that he was very happy to meet her and blessed her.
When asked whether she would be contesting from Mylapore seat, she said that she has no expectation and she does not know who would be the party's candidate.
“The party's second list for eight seats including Mylapore will be declared on Thursday. I don't know what decision Congress president Sonia Gandhi and vice president Rahul Gandhi had taken on candidates. Like you, I will also come to know who is the candidate for Mylapore seat when the list is released," she said.
To a query on two people died in AIADMK chief Jayalalithaa's rally in Salem, she said that Jayalalithaa is not bothered about the lives of the people.
She also wondered why Jayalalithaa did not implement prohibition in the state when she was in power for the last five years.
