Mangaluru: The third phase of the Janashirvada Yatra led by Congress president Rahul Gandhi in the coastal districts of Udupi and Dakshina Kannada on Tuesday, was not restricted to mere roadshows, public rallies and temple visits. Rahul made the best of his time holding discussions and meeting people which was otherwise not scheduled in his tour programme.
During every speech, Rahul lashed out at Prime Minister on various issues. He made it a point to highlight Modi's statement that nothing was achieved in the last 60 years. Rahul remarked that this statement was an insult to the parents of the present generation, farmers, women, youth and others. He assured people that after the party is voted to power again, it would double its contribution to the development of Karnataka.
Rahul arrived at Mangaluru International Airport around 11.45 and left for Tenka Yermal in Udupi district to inaugurate the Rajiv Gandhi Political Institute. He landed in the ground of the government school and entered the school. The children who had only seen him on TV, rushed to him to shake hands. Rahul asked them: "How are you? How is your education? Did you have lunch?” Rahul also utilised the time to meet some fishermen. The fishermen are one of the strongest communities in the coastal district.
Before entering Dakshina Kannada district at Mulki, Rahul visited Narayana Guru mandir at Hejamadi and offered prayers. Narayana Guru is the spiritual icon of the Billava community, the strongest community in the coastal region.
