V M Sudheeran issues legal notice to CM Pinarayi Vijayan

The Supreme Court had directed the states to desist from granting licence for the sale of liquor along the NH and state highways.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: KPCC president V. M. Sudheeran has moved legally against the state government for failing to implement the Supreme Court order banning the sale of liquor within 500 metres of national and state highways. He has sent legal notices to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, Chief Secretary S. M. Vijayanand and DGP Loknath Behera through advocate Kaleeswaram Raj, warning that if they try to flout the Supreme Court judgment, legal action, including contempt of court proceedings, would be initiated.

Mr Sudheeran had on Sunday shot off a letter to Attorney-General Mukul Rohtagi asking him to step down for acting at the “behest of a few bar hotel owners.” The Supreme Court had directed the states to desist from granting licence for the sale of liquor along the NH and state highways. “The state government action of suppressing the people’s protest against the outlets was illegal and undemocratic,” said Mr Sudheeran.
