HYDERABAD: The Telangana unit of Kisan Congress will organise a ‘long march’ from Parade Grounds to Indira Park in the city on February 27 to protest against the three farms laws enacted by the Centre as well as “antifarmer attitude” of the state government.
Announcing this, Kisan Congress chairman S. Anvesh Reddy accused the Narendra Modi government of being stubborn about insisting on the law despite protests by lakhs of farmers on Delhi’s borders since three months.
Adding to woes of farmers in Telangana state, the K. Chandrashekar Rao government has stated it will no more purchase agriculture produce while keeping the purchase centres open, he added. Anvesh Reddy said both the Centre and the state government seem be hand-in-glove on benefitting businessmen, leaving farmers in a lurch.
Further, the state government is burdening farmers with interest payment on their loans, as it has not waived their loans despite promising the same.
Farmers are even unable to claim crop insurance since the state government is also not extending matching grant under the PradhanMantri Fasal Bima Yojana, the leader further said. The Kisan Congress chairman said that the Chandrashekar Rao government is not extending input subsidy to farmers if they lose the crop due to unseasonal rains.
“I request farmers to participate in the rally in large numbers to bring pressure on both the Central and state governments,” Anvesh Reddy added.
