UP polls: Rahul to address rallies in Amethi, Priyanka might accompany him

Amethi: Congress Vice President and Member of Parliament Rahul Gandhi will address a series of election rallies here on Thursday to garner support for his party candidates in the ongoing Uttar Pradesh assembly elections.

Party sources said that he might be accompanied by his sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.

Notably, Rahul represents the Amethi constituency in the Lok Sabha.

The party's local spokesperson Anil Singh said Rahul will address public meetings at Gauriganj, Jagdishpur (reserved) and Amethi assembly segments.

Incidentally, despite a direct poll alliance between the Congress and the Samajwadi Party, the candidates of the two parties are pitted against each other in two assembly segments in this district - Amethi and Gauriganj.

In Amethi, Congress candidate Ameeta Singh is pitted against the controversial state minister Gayatri Prajapati, who has a criminal case lodged against him at the Supreme Court for his alleged role in the rape of a woman.

In Gauriganj assembly segment, Congress nominee Mohammed Naeem is contesting against sitting Samajwadi Party MLA Rakesh Pratap Singh.

Meanwhile, another high-profile Congress leader and former cricketer Mohammad Azharuddin will also campaign at Amethi, in favour of the party candidates.
