KALABURAGI: Protesters led by CPM leader Maruthi Manpade, Janata Dal (Secular) leader Nasser Hussain, and advocate Mazhar Hussain, were detained and released even as the city witnessed a mixed response to a call for bandh in protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, on Thursday.

The shut down, called by Peoples’ Forum, however, was complete in areas inhabited by minorities with protests witnessed in some precincts of the city in violation of prohibitory orders imposed by the district administration.

Since morning, scores of protesters gathered near Nagareshwar School and the Muslim Chowk and attempted to march towards Mini Vidhana Soudha but were prevented by a large posse of policemen.

Anticipating trouble, the local administration declared a holiday for educational institutions, today.
