Jaya hospital video released ahead of RK Nagar bypoll: EPS faction, DMK to move EC

TN minister D Jayakumar said the video was purposefully released by the Dhinakaran faction with intention to influence RK Nagar bypoll.

Chennai: Just a day before the RK Nagar by-poll, politics in Tamil Nadu has heated up once again after TTV Dhinakaran faction released the video of former chief minister J Jayalalithaa in Chennai's Apollo Hospital ahead of her demise in December last year.

Tamil Nadu minister D Jayakumar alleged that the video was purposefully released by the Dhinakaran faction with an intention to influence the RK Nagar by-poll. He also asked for the timing of the release of the video and questioned Dhinakaran loyalist P Vetriivel for not releasing the video earlier and only doing so ahead of the polls.

The state minister has sought an immediate action by the Election Commission against P Vetriivel.

"Model Code of Conduct is instated now, therefore we expect Election Commission to take immediate action against P Vetriivel," Jayakur said.

The ruling party also alleged that Sasikala's family released Jayalalithaa video with an eye on Thursday's bypoll.

DMK too reacted sharply against the release of the video by Vetriivel and said the party will complaint to the Election Commission.

"She was CM, people should have known status of her health but they did not release this video (of Jayalalithaa at Apollo Hospital) at that time, now they did so for personal gains, it violates MCC, we will complain to the Election Commission," DMK MP TKS Elangovan said.

The RK Nagar constituency will go to polls on December 21. The seat which was headed by former chief minister J Jayalalithaa has been vacant since her death in December last year.
