CPM panchayat member quits party, joins IUML
KANNUR: In a shocking move, one of the CPM members of the Peravoor panchayat and Health standing committee chairman Siraj Pookkoth on Tuesday resigned from the party and joined the IUML. In a press conference held here at the Press Club, Mr Siraj said that he was hurt by the betrayal of the CPM towards the religious minorities. He submitted his resignation to panchayat secretary on Tuesday morning. Mr Siraj was also the DYFI Peravoor block committee vice president.
The seat, that had been dominated by the IUML for long years, was wrested by the CPM, with the candidatures of Mr Siraj. He is likely to contest again from Peravoor town ward, as a candidate of the Muslim League. IUML local leaders welcomed his joining to their party and said that he would be a district committee office-bearer of the Youth League soon and would receive the membership from state general secretary KPA Majeed.
