AP housing scheme to save state crores in power bill
VIJAYAWADA: The Andhra Pradesh government would facilitate the use of “best-quality” energy efficiency appliances for beneficiaries of India’s biggest Navaratnalu Pedalanariki Illu housing scheme.
Stating this here on Sunday, special chief secretary for housing, Ajay Jain, said the Energy Efficiency Services Ltd aimed to sign a tripartite agreement with the AP housing department and APSEEDCO to supply such appliances.
EESL has agreed in principle to supply LED bulbs, LED tube lights and energy-efficient fans at cost-effective prices to AP state housing corporation (APSHCL) to distribute these to beneficiaries of the houses built under the Navaratnalu Pedalandariki Illu scheme.
During a teleconference, EESL CEO Vishal Kapoor said the company has plans to sign an MoU with AP state housing corporation (APSHCL) to supply EE appliances. The AP state energy efficiency development corporation (APSEEDCO), a joint venture of AP power utilities, would act as the project management consultancy.
Ajay Jain said the housing department would distribute 4 LED bulbs, 2 LED tube lights, 2 energy efficient fans to each beneficiary, which would help save around 734 units of energy per house per annum.
It is estimated that around Rs 352 crore per annum could be saved by using energy-efficient appliances in 15.6 lakh houses that are being constructed under phase-1 of the housing scheme.
Under the Navaratnalu Pedalandariki Illu (NPI) programme, around 17.24 lakhs (81 per cent) out of the total 21.25 lakh houses were grounded so far. The government spent Rs 4163 crore this financial year towards materials components like cement, steel, sand and other materials and for payment to the beneficiaries.
Ajay Jain said AP would be the first state that would build lakhs of houses by using modern technologies to improve energy efficiency. Officials of the state housing corporation, EESL, APSECM & APSEEDCO participated in the teleconference.
