GHMC polls: Many oppose postal ballot move

They are unsure of how to perceive this news as it requires the PwDs to have a disability certificate

HYDERABAD: The news of postal ballots being given out to persons with disabilities (PwDs) has not been welcomed by voters in the city.

They were unsure of how to perceive this news as it requires the PwDs to have a disability certificate.

“Many Multiple Sclerosis Patients (MSPs) do not have a disability certificate. In such circumstances stepping out to cast votes is very difficult for a person who has a compromised immune system,” said Renuka (name changed) an MSP from the city.

Kolli Nageswara Rao of the All India Disabled Rights’ Forum (AIDRF), said, “There are 21 categories of disability under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act. But, the officials do not know the list of disabilities. How do we leave the postal ballots at their mercy?” He said there were 14 lakh persons with disabilities across all ages.”
