Bypoll for Lakkasandra BBMP ward today
Bengaluru: Byelection to the Lakkasandra BBMP ward (number 146) will be held on Sunday. It was necessitated due to the death of ward corporator Mahesh Babu in a car accident on Bengaluru-Mysore highway on July 17.
The BJP is fielding the wife of the deceased corporator Sarala C., while the Congress has given the ticket to Mr Adugodi Mohan. Mr Pervez Ahmed will contest from the JD(S). Three independent candidates, Mr Rafi Ullah Khan, Mr Sheikh Abdulla and Mr N.S. Muniraju, too are in the fray.
BJP heavyweights, like former deputy chief minister R. Ashok and Jayanagar MLA B.N. Vijay Kumar, were seen campaigning for Ms Sarala. She is seeking votes on the basis of developmental works taken up her deceased husband Mr Mahesh Babu.
From the Congress, Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy and Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee working president Dinesh Gundurao and Mayor Padmavathi went through visited prominent streets in the ward and campaigned for Mr Mohan. Political observers said that though the Congress is expected to put up a tough fight, the electorate may choose Ms Sarala because of the sympathy factor.
The ballot will be counted on November 23 and the result will be declared the same day.
