BJP hits out at Kamal Haasan on demonetisation remarks

She urged her party members to spread out to various parts of the state and involve in measures to prevent the spread of Dengue.

Chennai: The BJP on Thursday lashed out at actor-filmmaker Kamal Haasan for apologising for 'hastily supporting' demonetisation and saying Prime Minister Narendra Modi should accept his 'mistake'.

Taking strong exception to the actor’s remarks, BJP MP L. Ganesan said, “we have to wait and watch the positive impacts of demonetisation. The government is ready to ensure changes to the Goods and Services Tax regime.”

Writing in his column in Tamil weekly Ananda Vikatan, which hit the stands on Wednesday, the 'Indian' and 'Vishwaroopam' actor said he was duty-bound to openly apologise for his haste in lauding the note ban move, announced by the PM on November 8, 2016.

“If the prime minister admitted the mistake... without being obstinate, another salaam from me is waiting for him," he said, adding "correcting the mistake... and importantly admitting it is the hallmark of great leaders. Mr. Gandhi (Mahatma) was able to do it. It is possible even today, let us wait and see."

Mr. Ganesan also criticised Kamal for speaking against Nilavembu kashayam being given to prevent dengue and said, “at a time when efforts are on to control dengue, there is no need for such a remark.” He said Kamal is uttering something just for the sake of speaking in a different manner.

Meanwhile, BJP state president Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan launched a medical camp where Nilavembu kashayam was distributed to the members of the public.

She urged her party members to spread out to various parts of the state and involve in measures to prevent the spread of Dengue.
