YSRC sweep in MPTC, ZPTCs in Godavari districts
KAKINADA: The Ruling YSR Congress performed well in the MPTC and ZPTC elections and was far ahead of the main opposition Telugu Desam in the East Godavari districts.
The TD ran in the second position, but the Jana Sena was also close on the heels of the TD in the last stages of the counting.
In some mandals, Jana Sena won more seats than the Telugu Desam. The Jana Sena gave tough fights to ruling YSRC and TD. According to sources, during the Panchayat elections, there was an indirect alliance between the Jana Sena and the TD, but the TD leaders rather than supporting the Jana Sena candidates backed the ruling YSRC. But in this MPTC and ZPTC elections, Jana Sena avoided an alliance with the TD.
In MPTC elections, the BJP, Congress and Bahujan Samaj Party candidates won one each MPTC seat. The BJP won the Jagannadha Giri seat in Kajuluru mandal in alliance with the Jana Sena and the BSP won the P.Gannavaram mandal.
