Small fries to hurt big sharks
Hyderabad: Ahead of the elections to the Telangana Assembly, a motley crowd of newly registered political parties like the Telangana Praja Party, Telangana Inti Party and Yuva Telangana Party, are out to play spoil sport. Although these parties may attract only a handful of votes, they may eat into the vote share of the larger political parties in the state.
Since the difference between the winner and the runners-up in closely-fought electoral battles can be as small as 3 per cent to 8 per cent, any candidate polling more than 5 per cent of votes becomes a factor in the winning (or losing) equation.
Jitta Bala Krishna Reddy, President of the Yuva Telangana Party said that women and youth were totally disillusioned with KCR’s rule in the state. “We are not issuing any manifesto, but we certainly hope to question the candidates and parties that belied people’s hopes in the state,” he said.
Rani Rudrama, a former TV anchor and the working president of Yuva Telangana Party said that they had reserved 40 percent of seats for women. She said once the election notification was issued, they would crisscross the state with Yuva Chaitanya Yatras, reminding the youth about their rights.
Retired High Court Judge, Chandrakumar floated the Telangana Praja Party while Cheruku Sudhakar has launched the Telangana Inti party with a view to fielding candidates in the forthcoming general elections.
The Telangana Inti party may have an impact on votes in Nakirekal in Nalgonda district, as Cheruku Sudhakar has some influence there while its vice president Srinivas Reddy may challenge mainstream political party candidates in the Mahabubnagar constituency.
R Krishnaiah, who had built his political career on the support of backward students’ welfare plan, had been nursing ambitions of floating a political party, exclusively for the backward communities. He is likely to take a decision after holding a convention of like-minded people on September 25.
Another new party, Jai Swaraj has been floated by Kasani Srinivas. Balladar Gaddar may also be on the verge of announcing a new political outfit.
