Fill vacant posts, says Mallikarjun Kharge to Siddaramaiah
Kalaburagi: Leader of the Congress in the Lok Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge has appealed to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to fill up the many vacancies in government departments, that were hampering developmental projects, within a year.
In a letter to Mr Siddaramaiah, he noted that often funds released for various developmental work, especially in backward Hyderabad Karnataka, were not used for lack of employees to execute the projects.
“According to my information there are over 60,000 vacancies in various departments in the state. Let the government draw up a time- bound programme to fill all these vacancies as this will help immensely in implementing its programmes. As the next elections are due to be held in two years, the recruitment process for these posts should be completed within a year ,” he suggested, recalling that as Minister for Primary and Secondary Education in 1976-77 he had ensured that as many as 18,000 teachers were appointed within a span of six months.
In another letter, Mr Kharge drew the Chief Minister’s attention to the “raw deal” the candidates from Hyderabad Karnataka were getting in recruitments to posts outside the H-K region.
“According to Article 371(J), eight per cent of these posts are supposed to go to Hyderabad-Karnataka region candidates. But the Hyderabad-Karnataka region candidates are not getting any benefit from any of the departments. I’d like the matter to be placed before the Cabinet, and necessary action taken on this,” he wrote, also urging the Chief Minister to ensure that merit candidates from the H-K region were considered under the “merit list” and not under Article 371(J) .
