DMK President M K Stalin questioned the nomination of Umanath, managing director of Tamil Nadu Medical Services Corporation, to the committee to be set up by the Centre to decide on providing 50 reservation for OBCs in the seats surrendered by Tamil Nadu for the All-India Quota in the admission for medical and dental courses.
When the verdict of the Madras High Court, under which the committee had to set up, clearly stated that the State Health Secretary would be part of the four-member committee, the nomination of Umanath seemed to have some ulterior motives behind it, Stalin said in a statement on Wednesday.
Accusing Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami of playing a double on the issue, Stalin pointed out that the State government had gone on appeal against the verdict.
Warning the government against spoiling the right for reservation obtained through an united fight put up by all the political parties in the State, Stalin said the judgment was an important one in the history of social justice.
