Dr G Parameshwar to contest 2018 poll from Koratagere?
Bengaluru: Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president, Dr G Parameshwar , who is likely to contest the 2018 assembly poll, could decide to enter the fray from Koratagere constituency, according to sources close to him.
Although he has not taken any decision yet and is said to be considering various options, it is believed he could announce his choice of constituency by the end of the month.
“Block and district presidents from 15 districts have asked him to select any constituency from their region and promised to work for his victory,” sources say. While Dr Parameshwar was reportedly eyeing Pulakeshinagar constituency in Bengaluru and Mudigere in Chikkamagaluru district, believing they could be relatively safe bets for him, he is said to have given up on both as sitting JD(S) legislator, Akhanda Srinivasamurthy, is likely to contest again from Pulakeshinagar and MLC Motamma is keen on retaining Mudigere.
Dr Parameshwar may have no option but to try his luck from Koratagere , where he is familiar with the people, according to sources.
The veteran leader’s career took a nosedive when he lost to Mr P R Sudhakarlal of the JDS, a political novice, in the 2013 Assembly polls and lost the race for the Chief Minister's post too in the process. The party high command was not keen on making him DCM either.
Following the surprising defeat it took him almost two- and -a -half years to enter the Legislative Council and later accept the Home portfolio.
His recent bitter experience seems to have made Dr Parameshwar cautious about the choice of constituency for the 2018 poll and he is consulting local leaders of Koratagere on whether or not he should contest from it, going by sources.
