Beneficiaries must not turn destroyers: Tamil Nadu CM

Veiled reference to Dhinakaran at MGR centenary in Tiruvarur.

Tiruvapur: The State Chief Minister, Mr Edappadi K. Palaniswami on Saturday warned those who, having coming up with the help of AIADMK, attempted to destroy or betrayed the party, adding, “they will not be allowed to do so”.

In a veiled reference to the AIADMK (Amma)'s deputy general secretary, T T V Dhinakaran and his supporters, Mr Palaniswami, addressing the former Chief Minister MGR birth centenary celebrations here, said some people were “letting loose” false propaganda against the government led by him in a bid to topple it. But they will not succeed in their attempts, he asserted.

Rebutting his critics who faulted him for making frequent visits to New Delhi, Mr Palaniswami justified his trips to the national capital saying, “because of such visits, Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his recent visit to Rameswaram gave an open assurance that the Centre will give assistance to build any number of houses in Tamil Nadu” to meet the housing needs of the people. The present 'Amma Government' will continue at any cost and complete its full term, he added.

The Chief Minister said under the first phase of 'Kudimaramathu' scheme desilting work in 1519 water bodies were nearing completion at a cost of '100 crore. It was proposed to undertake desilting work in 2,065 more water bodies at an estimated cost of Rs 300 crore. “Because of this scheme, the silt in the water bodies are supplied to needy farmers free of cost and the water bodies will get deepened to store more water”, he added.

Mr Palaniswami emphasised that law and order in Tamil Nadu was being maintained well, compare to other states in the country.

A sum of Rs 161.22 crore has been provided as drought relief to 1, 33,361 affected farmers. Fur-ther, for benefit of delta farmers, a 'Kuruvai' package scheme at a cost of '56.92 crore has already been sanctioned, he said. Mr Palaniswami also claimed that Tamil Nadu stood first in food production in the last four years by producing 100 lakh tonnes of food grains and got the Centre's award in this connection this year, he said, adding, the State has been performing well in the education field also.

Mr Palaniswami announced several new schemes for Tiruvarur district as urged by the party's Tiruvarur district secretary and State Food minister R. Kamaraj. He said the newly commenced Government Arts and Science College in the district has been named after late Chief Minister MGR.

Mr Palanisamy also gave away the prizes to student winners of various competitions and also distributed welfare measures to the needy.

The Assembly Speaker Mr. P. Dhanapal presided over the function. Lok Sabha Deputy Speaker, Dr M. Thambidurai, and Mr R Kamaraj were among those who spoke at the grand centenary function in this temple town.
