Kozhikode: The state BJP unit has kick-started its well-oiled organisational machinery to ensure the successful conduct of three-day BJP national council meet scheduled to begin in Kozhikode on September 23. BJP heavyweights including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, national president Amit Shah, union ministers, chief ministers of BJP ruling states and parliament members are expected to fly down to Kozhikode to participate in the conference. More than 1700 delegates will attend the three-day session.
The organising committee has booked as many as 1,500 rooms in the region for the delegates. All rooms in premier hotels have been booked for high-profile leaders while hotels located in the neighbouring districts have also been booked for the others. BJP state president Kummanam Rajasekharan told Deccan Chronicle that the meet is expected to activate the entire party machinery from booth-level in the changed circumstances in the state.
“Our workers would visit each home in the state in connection with the campaign heralding the meeting,” he said. “This meeting is important both politically as well as an organisation.” Mr Rajasekharan would be camping in Kozhikode from August 21. BJP Kozhikode district president T.P. Jayachandran said it is a challenge for the district committee. “We also consider it a chance to prove our mettle,” he said. “We have elected 33 sub-committees. House-visits seeking to propagate the message of the meet would start on September 5. “We would visit each home and would also collect funds, however small they may be, for the party,” he said.
Mr Jayachandran said the party is hopeful that the national council meet would help the party reach out to the unreached in the Malabar region. BJP national secretary H. Raja would inaugurate the organising committee office on August 21. The city was picked for its importance in the evolution of the BJP and for its political significance as the party expects to shake the Communist citadels of North Malabar, say BJP leaders.
It was in 1967 national council held at Kozhikode that Deendayal Upadhyaya, the legendary leader, was elected president of Jana Sangh, the former avatar of BJP, almost 50 years ago. The RSS and the BJP observe this year as the birth centenary of the leader and the Prime Minister would launch the year-long nationa-wide celebrations in Kozhikode on September 24.
