Anti-Maoist drive: NIA conducts searches in Vijayawada
VIJAYAWADA: The National Investigation Agency conducted searches in the residence of Duddu Prabhakar, state president of the Kula Nirumulana Pooratta Samiti, at Ajit Singh Nagar here on Tuesday.
Prabhakar is suspected to have connections with Maoists and arranging funds to the banned Maoist party.
The police did not allow anyone into the house and the searches were continuing. Some civil society organisations condemned the searches.
NIA officials with the help of Vijayawada police raided the residence of Duddu Prabhakar near Luna centre. Prabhakar lives in a rented house in Ajit singh Nagar with his wife and daughter for the past four years.
The searches continued till evening and the local people and media were not allowed into the house.
Swathi, daughter of Prabhakar, said the police had conducted raids on their residence on three occasions. Civil society organisation leaders vowed to fight against the “fascist” policies of the Union government and its “draconian” laws.
Wife of top Maoist leader Ramakrishna alias RK (late), Sirisha, who came to Vijayawada, staged a protest with other leaders, against the NIA raids on the leaders of people’s organisations.
