Student Valarmathi had previous cases against her: TN CM
Chennai: Defending the arrest of college student Valarmathi under Goondas Act, Chief Minister Palaniswami on Wednesday informed that six cases are already pending against her.
Making a statement in the Assembly, the Chief Minister said Valarmathi, co-ordinator of Student’s Arousal Movement for Public Welfare was distributing pamphlets in front of Government Girls Arts College in Salem town demanding the withdrawal of methane and hydrocarbon projects.
Valarmathi had with the support of radical left organisations incited Annamalai University students to protest demanding reduction of fees. She had been booked for threatening security guards of the university. She indulged in road roko and blocked traffic during the visit of Union Minister of state Pon Radhakrishn and cases were filed against her. She also resorted to road roko opposing the Neduvasal hydrocarbon scheme at Salem.
A case was booked on her for inciting people at Kulithalai in support of Neduvasal protest. Another case was booked when she held road roko at Coimbatore town against arrest of May 17 Movement leader Thirumurugan Gandhi.
Despite series of actions against her, she did not change herself, CM noted and asserted that Goondas Act was not slapped on her on the very first instance.
