KRDL to take up railway link to Mysuru: Centre

A survey for the Thalassery-Mysore new line has been taken up.

Kozhikode: The Kerala Rail Development Limited, a joint venture company formed by the government of Kerala with the ministry of railways, has agreed to take up the Thalassery-Mysuru rail line work. The announcement came in reply to the questions raised by MPs P.K. Sreemathy and Mullappally Ramachandran to Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu in Parliament.

Though no final decision has been taken to start the new line, the KRDL decision has come after a long campaign by political parties in the state. A survey for the Thalassery-Mysore new line has been taken up.

The proposed project was found unviable as per the feasibility report prepared by Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Limited, entrusted by Kerala government to submit a detailed project report.

The project also faced environmental issues as its alignment passes through reserve forest area in Kerala and Karnataka.

The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change has been requested to clear a detailed survey in forest area.
