I am in Indian National Cong, not ‘Siddu Cong’: Roshan Baig

Cong may not take drastic steps against ex-minister fearing drop in numbers.

Bengaluru: Undeterred by his suspension, senior Congress legislator from Shivajinagar, R. Roshan Baig continued his tirade against Congress Legislature Party(CLP) leader Siddaramaiah and his loyalists remarking that he was still with the Indian National Congress and not with the 'Siddaramaiah Congress party.'

A day after AICC general secretary, K.C. Venugopal issued his suspension order, Mr Baig arrived before the media on Wednesday and said he was a loyal soldier of the party and will continue to be so. He however, raised questions that he had raised in the past too which had embarrassed Siddaramaiah and KPCC president Dinesh Gundurao.

"Our own partymen defeated our senior leader K.H. Muniyappa in Kolar (in the Lok Sabha polls). Why was no action taken against them? Our partymen openly worked against the coalition candidate (Nikhil Kumaraswamy) in Mandya. At least, I ensured the party candidate (Rizwan Arshad) got a handsome lead in Bengaluru Central constituency," he said.

Sources in the Baig camp said that he was not too worried about his suspension as the coalition government is in a vulnerable position because of its numbers and cannot afford to lose him. "Kampli Congress MLA, J.N. Ganesh was suspended and what happened later? They rescinded the decision. Mr Baig apparently spoke to senior leaders who cautioned him not to precipitate matters for some time. They reportedly said this(his suspension) was the handiwork of Mr Siddaramaiah and would be countered at an appropriate time. The leaders reportedly assured him all help in the AICC and so, Mr Baig is not too disturbed," sources added.
