BJP was against giving quota to BCs, SC/STs, says CM Siddaramaiah

Popular schemes like Anna Bhagya and Ksheera Bhagya were meant for all communities.

Bengaluru: Ridiculing Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his slogan, ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas,’ Chief Minister Siddaramaiah claimed on Friday that the Bharatiya Janata Party was in reality against providing reservation for backward classes and scheduled castes and tribes in the state.

Interacting with reporters at the Meet the Press programme jointly organised by the Bengaluru Press club and Bengaluru Reporters Guild here, he recalled that the Bharatiya Janata Party was also vehemently opposed to making a Constitutional amendment to provide reservation for women in local bodies.

“In fact, BJP counsel, Rama Jois, appeared before the Supreme Court to oppose the amendment, but the same party is now talking about Sabka Saath, Sabka Viksa,” he deplored, also observing that the saffron party did not give tickets to Muslims and Christians in the recent Uttar Pradesh elections. “This is a party which has never believed in secular principles or social justice,” he charged.

Also taking on Opposition leader, Jagadish Shettar for calling his government anti- Lingayats, Vokkaligas and Brahmins, the Chief Minister dared him to mention even one instance where it had acted against these communities and asserted that popular schemes like Anna Bhagya and Ksheera Bhagya were meant for all communities.
