AIADMK leaders meet Pranab; seek CBI probe into Jaya's death
New Delhi: AIADMK party leaders met President Pranab Mukherjee on Friday and sought Mukherjee and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s intervention into the death of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa and also requested a judicial probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
A group of AIADMK MPs along with party leader Maithreyan on Thursday met the President and submitted a memorandum regarding the same.
Seeking a judicial probe by the CBI, the party also sent a request petition to the Tamil Nadu Chief Secretary Girija Vaidyanathan by the Union Home Ministry.
The request further states that suitable actions must be initiated and appropriate steps must be taken in this regard.
The party leaders also requested the Prime Minister to take cognisance of the matter.
On the other hand, former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister O Paneerselvam on Friday met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and raised issues concerning the state, including the release of pending funds, but no political developments were discussed.
"There were no discussions on politics of the state, however, I put forth state-specific issues including funds pending for the state," he said, adding a memorandum in this regard has been submitted to the prime minister.
He said that he had asked the prime minister to release funds for solving issues of drinking water caused by deficient rainfall, Avinashi-Athikadavu groundwater recharge scheme.
Apart from it, exempting the state from the ambit of NEET, setting up of Cauvery management board and regulatory body were some of the points which Paneerselvam claimed to have raised in the 30-minute long meeting.
"The PM also assured that he would take note of issues of farmers who are affected by severe drought," OPS said.
