It will be a giant leap' for honest politicians: AAP leader

Mr Reddy said that while other political parties worked on the basis of caste, AAP focused on issues that mattered to the public.

Bengaluru: Karnataka convener of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Prithvi Reddy, arrived in a rally of over 400 supporters to file his nomination from the Sarvagnanagar assembly constituency in Bengaluru on Thursday. Speaking to the Deccan Chronicle later, he said he was surprised at the kind of support he was receiving.

“ People are very upset and angry with (Bengaluru Development Minister) KJ George because he has not carried out any developmental work in the constituency,” he claimed.

While Mr George, who has won elections twice before from the constituency, is once again contesting from it, other major parties have not yet declared their candidates.

Asked on what basis he was seeking the people’s votes, Mr Reddy said that while other political parties worked on the basis of caste, AAP focused on issues that mattered to the public. “So our vote bank is 100 per cent the people and not any particular caste. This assembly result could be the first giant leap for honest politicians. It could send a message to the people, who are rich and powerful, that they are using wrong political tactics. I am just a face of the party. It is the common man who has to fight this election,” he asserted.

Mr Mohan Kumar, an AAP supporter, who was present, claimed the party was getting good response from the people. “We have done a door-to-door campaign to reach out to the people and I hope we make a difference this time,” he added

While the biggies, the BJP, Congress and JD(S) battle it out, it remains to be seen whether AAP will at least find a toe- hold in the state these assembly polls.
