Bengaluru: Assets race, D K Shivakumar leads with Rs 619 crore, BSY has Rs 4.09 crore
Bengaluru: With filing of nominations for next month's Assembly elections gaining momentum, several crorepati candidates came out of the closet with a declaration of their wealth on Thursday.
Key leaders including state BJP president B.S. Yeddyurappa, former Dy.CM, R. Ashok, energy minister D.K. Shivakumar, his cabinet colleagues A Manju and B Ramanath Rai and leader of Opposition in the Legislative Council, K S Eshwarappa, among others, submitted nomination papers on Thursday.
At the top of the list in terms of assets was Mr Shivakumar. The minister, who made public assets of around Rs 75 crores in 2008, declared that they were worth Rs 600 crores, excluding the income and assets of his daughter. Interestingly, the value of his assets increased by around Rs 398 crores since 2013.
According to an affidavit submitted by the minister on Thursday, the total value of his assets was over Rs 619 crores. His liabilities stood at Rs 101.77 crores. The minister owns 2.184 kg gold, 12.600 kg silver articles, diamonds and rubies worth Rs 1.26 crore. His Rolex watch was worth Rs 9 lakhs but he owns a Toyota car worth Rs 8.35 lakhs. Mr Shivakumar possesses household articles worth Rs 6.84 lakhs.
The affidavit states that his wife, Mrs Usha Shivakumar, owns movable assets worth Rs 25.04 crores, immovable property worth Rs 86.95 crores and has a liability of Rs 44.56 crores. Interestingly, Mr Shivakumar's daughter, Miss D S Aishwarya owns movable property worth Rs 5.17 crores, Rs 101.88 crores worth immovable property and has a liability of Rs 81.92 crores.
In comparison, Mr Yeddyurappa has declared cash of Rs 1 lakh in hand, moveable properties worth Rs 71.30 lakhs and immovable properties including a building worth crores and gold and silver worth Rs 1.09 crores.
