IUML welcomes Supreme Court ruling on Babri Masjid
Kozhikode: Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) has welcomed the Supreme Court ruling restoring the conspiracy charges against BJP leaders including L.K. Advani, Uma Bharti and Murali Manohar Joshi in Babri Masjid demolition case.
“The ruling is a big relief. It brings hope that justice could be delivered, though delayed,” said IUML national secretary E.T. Mohammad Basheer.
He mentioned the guidelines laid down by the SC to ensure that the case will be settled within two years.
“The case was pending before the court for 25 years. The ruling that the two cases should be clubbed together and tried in Lucknow court and settled within two years is a ray of hope,” he added.
The IUML leader demanded the resignation of Uma Bharti as Union cabinet minister in the wake of the ruling.
“As Kalyan Singh enjoys constitutional protection for his gubernatorial capacity, the President should initiate action to dismiss him,” he said.
“Mosque demolition was not the fallout of an emotional outburst of karsevaks,” Mr Basheer said. “It was carefully orchestrated with the knowledge and support of RSS leaders,” he added.
Mr Muhammed Basheer also termed the ruling as a major setback to the communal politics of BJP.
