Bengaluru: Siddaramaiah Congress’s star campaigner!

KPCC is chalking out a tour programme for the former chief minister in all the 28 Lok Sabha constituencies.

Bengaluru: Former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has proved such a crowdpuller at public rallies in the past that the KPCC is chalking out a tour programme for him in all 28 parliamentary constituencies, including those given to the JD(S) as part of the campaigning for the coming Lok Sabha poll.

Mr Siddaramaiah is scheduled to address two assembly segments in each parliamentary constituency once filing of nomination papers is completed, according to party sources. He has been especially popular in north Karnataka, with the people at the public rallies here lapping up his speeches, punctuated with sarcasm and humour, they note.

His oratory skills did not go unnoticed by Congress president, Rahul Gandhi during the 2018 Assembly elections and he was asked to accompany him to his election rallies across the state, they recall. His punchy take on 'Acche din' and sarcastic comments like 'Baayi bhadayi sadhane shoonya' ( tall, talk, but zero achievement), attacking Prime Minister Narendra Modi had received huge response in rural areas of the state.

Mr Siddaramaiah's ridiculing of state BJP leaders, especially its state president, B S Yeddyurappa, and mining baron turned politician, G Janardhan Reddy and his confidante, B Sriramulu, had tickled crowds, who flocked to hear his speeches, observe party sources.

So popular is he that most Congress candidates, who plan to contest the coming Lok Sabha poll, have already requested him to visit their constituencies at least a couple of times to woo the voters.

In their view no other state Congress leader, including Deputy Chief Minister,m Dr G Parameshwar and KPCC president, Dinesh Gundu Rao, is as effective as their speeches are usually lacklustre and lacking in punchy lines and humour.

JD(S) leaders too are hoping he will draw the crowds for them at their campaign rallies for the coming poll, sources add.
