Thiruvananthapuram: Revive Congress' strikes a chord on Facebook
Thiruvananthapuram: The Youth Congress men have launched a campaign on the Facebook page under the title ‘Revive Congress’ for a generational shift in the party’s policies. In a post, Mr V. T. Balram MLA has said: “Congress is not just a political party. It is a broad philosophy and a way of looking at the idea of India.”
The YC leaders are moving against the leaders who have contested the elections for more than three times. Last week, they confronted Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, Congress Working Committee member A. K. Antony, KPCC president V. M. Sudheeran and Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala with their demand. A prominent YC leader told DC that earlier also there were groups like ‘Reformists’ floated by the late G. Karthikeyan and Mr Chennithala against the style of functioning of K. Karunakaran.
“We are not fighting against any individual sitting MLAs. Our demand is that senior leaders should give way to the younger generation,” said the YC leader.
Within hours of launching the FB page, over 500 people ‘liked’ the virtual initiative.
Mr Balram said, “the youngsters in the party should come forward to fight the communal, casteist and other regressive elements in our polity.” The AICC leaders have also taken note of the initiative and said that they were watching the development.
