MMK fails to break ice with Jayalalithaa, joins DMK
Chennai: Manithaneya Makkal Katchi on Saturday re-joined the DMK front, after its efforts to get into the ruling AIADMK alliance failed miserably. Its leader M.H. Jawahirullah who met DMK treasurer M.K. Stalin and expressed his support to the DMK told reporters that the talks with the DMK were satisfactory. He said his party would contest in the DMK alliance.
The MMK leader left no stone unturned to get a berth in the ruling AIADMK alliance and came out with accolades for the AIADMK leadership whenever he had an opportunity. But, his party suffered a split on the election eve with Jawahirullah expelling his student Thamimun Anzari, who has floated his own front.
The MMK contested in the 2011 Assembly elections in the AIADMK’s company and won two out of three seats it contested. But, it crossed over to the DMK front in 2014 Parliament elections and lost.
