Danam threatens to obstruct IPL matches in Hyderabad
Hyderabad: Danam Nagender, the TRS MLA from Khairatabad constituency, on Saturday threatened that he would obstruct the Indian Premier League (IPL) matches in Hyderabad to protest the injustice meted out to local players in the Sunrisers Hyderabad team during the recent player auctions.
Nagender made these comments while speaking to the media after launching the TRS membership drive in Filmnagar, Jubilee Hills.
He also found fault with the Sunrisers management for continuing with the Australian cricketer David Warner as captain, saying that he was involved in a ball-tampering scandal and was not worth leading the Hyderabad team in the IPL.
Nageneer also demanded that the Sunrisers management remove Hyderabad from the name of the team if it ignores local players.
“There are many talented players in Hyderabad and it is shocking that the Sunrisers management ignored them while selecting players for the team," the MLA said. “There are players who have played Ranji Trophy, U-19 tournaments and other leagues. These players deserve to play in the IPL."
“Mohammed Siraj is not the only cricketer who shone due to his talent. There are other players as well. They should get enough opportunities,” he said adding, We demand that the Sunrisers management select local players. If not, we will make sure that no IPL match will be held at Uppal Stadium," he said.
Earlier, Hyderabad Cricket Association president Mohd Azharuddin also expressed disappointment at the Sunrisers team. "Very disappointed not to see a single player from Hyderabad in the Hyderabad Sunrisers Team," he said.
