Mangaluru: Aiming to garner popular support, especially the Hindu votes in the coastal districts and to boost the morale of party workers, BJP national president Amit Shah arrived at Mangaluru International Airport on Monday on a three-day visit to the coastal districts.

He will attend various programmes in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada districts from Monday to Wednesday. Shah arrived at Mangaluru International Airport around 7.30 pm and was given a warm welcome by party leaders including MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, Mangaluru Vibhag Prabhari Uday Kumar Shetty, district president Sanjeev Matandoor and other leaders.

Around a thousand party workers had gathered at Kenjar, near the exit road from the Airport where a small stage was set up for Shah to address the party workers. Shah who came to the stage waved at the party workers and the leaders gave him a traditional welcome with a Peta, and shawl.

Though the workers were eagerly waiting to listen to their favorite leader to address them, the national president did not speak due to health reasons. Shah then left the venue to Kukke Subrahmanya followed by other leaders. After staying in the guest house at Kukke, Shah will have darshan of Kukke Sri Subrahmanya and offer pooja on Tuesday morning before starting his programme. On Tuesday he will address party workers at Kulkunda, have a discussion with students at Vivekananda College in Puttur, address the Navashakthi Samavesha at Bantwal and visit slain Deepak Rao’s house in Surathkal. He will then go to Udupi in the evening and address the fishermen at Malpe.
