DMK will fight it out in court: MK Stalin
Chennai: The DMK on Sunday announced that it would seek justice through legal recourse against the vote of confidence won by Chief Minister Edappadi K Palanisami on the floor of the Tamil Nadu Assembly on Saturday.
Apart from knocking at the doors of the judiciary, the party will also petition the President of India to nullify the proceedings of the Assembly since the motion of vote of confidence was brought in the House thrice and the voting was held by removing the entire Opposition from the floor.
In a detailed statement on his Facebook page, Mr Stalin recalled the events that happened in the Assembly on Saturday when the DMK members created a ruckus after Speaker P Dhanapal refused to conduct secret ballot to determine the numbers. The DMK Working President also accused the Speaker of playing the Dalit card without any basis and said the DMK has done more for the upliftment of the community than any other party.
Mr Stalin said rules of the Assembly say if a motion on vote of confidence is moved and if the House adjourns without voting on it, another motion cannot be brought within next six months. But, he said, Chief Minister Mr Palanisami moved the motion thrice on Saturday, which itself is in violation of the rules.
“We will brief the Governor on these rules and we have decided to seek justice through legal recourse. What is more important now is to go to the people’s court. We will also expose the benami dealings of the Government and will enlist their support (to us),” Mr Stalin said.
