Shabbir says public funds misused for Khammam meet

The Congress will prepare a report on misuse of public money for the BRS meeting and submit a memorandum to the Governor seeking a probe

KAMAREDDY: Former minister Mohammed Ali Shabbir on Thursday alleged that Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao misused public funds for holding the public meeting of Bharatiya Rashtra Samiti in Khammam.

Addressing a press conference at Kamareddy, Shabbir Ali said the CM spent crores of rupees on the meeting not from his party funds but by linking two government events with the public meeting.

The former Congress minister pointed out that in reality, Chief Ministers of Delhi, Punjab and Kerala – Arvind Kejriwal, Bhagwant Mann and Pinarayi Vijayan – had visited Telangana only to attend the BRS meeting. But KCR invited them for inauguration of Khammam Integrated Collectorate and launch of Kanti Velugu second phase. By doing so, he transferred all expenditure incurred on the three CMs’ visit into the government’s account.

Shabbir said Congress party will prepare a detailed report on misuse of public money for the BRS meeting and submit a memorandum to Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan seeking a high-level probe.

The Congress leader said: "Having ruled Telangana with both arrogance and ignorance for last nine years, KCR is now enacting new dramas. BRS meeting in Khammam is the first scene in a long film the Telangana CM proposes to show for diverting people's attention from his failures."

Shabbir pointed out that Telangana has incurred a huge debt of more than ₹5 lakh crore due to wrong policies of KCR. "Almost 21 percent of state's income is being spent on interest and loan repayment. Earlier, this used to be around 3–4 percent. As a result, state government is unable to pay salaries to its staff on time,” he underlined.
