Not quitting BJP: SM Krishna sets speculation at rest
Bengaluru: Putting to rest all speculation on his alleged growing differences with the BJP, former Chief Minister, S M Krishna participated in the party's Parivarthana Yatra in Mandya on Friday and heaping praise on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, predicted it would win the 2018 Assembly polls in the state.
Addressing a rally in Maddur town, he contended the Parivarthan Yatra spelt the beginning of the BJP's return to power in Karnataka. " State BJP chief, B S Yeddyurappa must ensure a government on the lines of the Modi government at the Centre when he becomes Chief Minister of Karnataka," he said, adding that BJP candidates must win from Mandya to strengthen the hands of the Prime Minister. "I appeal to all my loyalists and followers to join the BJP to make it more powerful," he said.
Claiming that people were fed up with the "corruption" of the past Congress regimes, Mr Krishna observed there were no such allegations against the Modi government. "No economic fraud has been reported. Mistakes do not happen when there is transparency as people don't allow it," he maintained .
Later, speaking to reporters, he ruled out the possibility of his daughter, Shambhavi seeking a BJP ticket to contest the coming Assembly elections, saying he was against dynastic politics. "That was one of the main reasons why I quit the Congress and joined the BJP," he revealed.
Mr Krishna also made it clear that he would no longer contest elections and only work for the success of other candidates during the polls.
"I am hearing comments like all those who have resigned from the Congress party are deadwood and will give a fitting reply in May(when the elctions are held). There are also rumours about me leaving the BJP , but I hope I have put to rest all such talk," he added.
