RAMESWARAM: Family members of the late President, Dr APJ Abdul Kalam here have welcomed actor Kamal Haasan’s declaration of intent to begin his political journey from the former’s residence in Rameswaram on February 21.
While the actor’s fans here are very excited about his ‘political avatar’ taking shape from Dr Kalam’s house, with Rameswaram part of erstwhile composite Ramanathapuram district that is also the home-turf of Kamal Haasan’s family, the late President’s kin consider his move as a great honour to Dr Kalam’s memory.
“Kamal Haasan has great regard and affection for my grandfather Dr A P J Abdul Kalam and both had exchanged views when they once travelled together in a flight,” recalled Salim, the late President’s nephew.
Out of his affection for Dr Kalam, he (Kamal) expressed his wish to us to start his political journey from our house here on February 21 after receiving the blessings of Dr Kalam’s elder brother, a living legend; “we wholeheartedly endorse his wish,” said Salim.
Welcoming Kamal Haasan’s foray into formal politics with the launch of a new political party, Salim said people would watch with keen interest how the actor takes his message and vision about the State to the people at large.
