Congress girding up to win Adilabad Lok Sabha seat

Adilabad: As part of its preparations for the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections, Congress party has made panchayat raj minister Seethakka as in-charge of the Adilabad parliament constituency, which is reserved for scheduled tribes.

An Adivasi herself, she is a well-known leader of the tribal community. She successfully campaigned for Congress party’s Dalit Girijan Dandora meeting held at Indravelli in 2021.

Seethakka is expected to visit Adilabad and hold a preparatory meeting with Congress party’s elected, defeated candidates in assembly segments within the Adilabad Lok Sabha seat, apart from DCC presidents and other leaders.

Of the assembly seats within the Adilabad parliament seat, Congress has won only the Khanapur constituency, while securing second and third places in Asifabad and Boath respectively reserved for STs.

It is learnt Congress party is trying to attract senior leaders of BRS and BJP, who contested in assembly elections and have got defeated.

Mancherial MLA Kokkirala Premsagar Rao said the state government is planning to conduct gram sabhas soon in villages and receive applications from eligible people for various welfare schemes promised by the Congress party.

He said they have already launched two guarantees – free travel for women in RTC buses and Rajiv Arogya Sri. The remaining four will be launched within 100 days.

According to 2011 census, there is total 27 lakh population in the erstwhile Adilabad district, 4.9 lakh of them belonging to tribal communities.

Lone Congress MLA elected from Adilabad parliament constituency Vedma Bojju of Khanapur said they have already started preparatory work for Lok Sabha elections. Congress has a strong base within the parliament constituency and Congress winning in the state and forming the government will help them put up a much better performance.

The MLA said they are making efforts to know about the problems faced by people and resolve them.
