Chennai: Precautions aplenty in RK Nagar amid money flow
Chennai: With tension growing in RK Nagar and to reduce the growing complaints of cash for votes, Election Commission of India has increased the deployment of paramilitary force with five companies taking charge of RK Nagar on Monday.
Fifteen companies of 950 para military personnel are now monitoring RK Nagar and the total number of surveillance teams had also been increased to all time high of 161. The number of shifts for static surveillance teams, flying squads and video surveillance teams had been increased and around 2,000 police personnel are deployed for RK Nagar, poll officials said.
District election officer and corporation commissioner D. Karthickeyan and city police commissioner A. K. Viswanathan reviewed the arrangements for the counting centre set up at Queen Mary’s college. The top brass also took stock on the live coverage arrangements made to stream the polling and counting of RK Nagar through web streaming.
Meanwhile, the Chief Electoral Officer Rajesh Lakhoni also issued election regulation that comes in to force from Tuesday. According to the communication, no one is allowed to convene, hold or attend any public meeting or procession in connection with RK Nagar after 5 PM on Tuesday.
No one shall display to the public any election matter by means of cinematograph, television or other similar apparatus, like, FM radios, WhatsApp, Facebook, Twitter and SMS.
Any violation of this and above two provisions is punishable with imprisonment for two years or fine or both, with reference to Section 126 (2) of the Representation of the People Act, 1951. (4) All political functionaries, party workers who have been brought from outside the constituency and are not voters of the constituency should leave the constituency immediately after 5.00 PM on Tuesday.
Kalyanamandapam, community hall, lodges, guest house would be checked to find out whether the outsiders have been accommodated in these premises. The vehicle permits given to candidates including star campaigners would cease to be valid with effect from Tuesday evening, the official communiqué added.
