Telangana: Congress backs 12 per cent for Muslims
Hyderabad: The Telangana State Congress leaders on Sunday submitted a memorandum to the newly constituted Back-ward Classes Commission and seeking 12 per cent reservations for the economically backward Muslim communities. The party urged the commission to submit its report quickly.
The delegation comprising TPCC president N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, Leaders of Opposition K. Jana Reddy (Assembly), Shabbir Ali (Council), senior legislators T. Jeevan Reddy, D.K. Aruna, former Union minister Balaram Naik and former MP Anjan Kumar Yadav.
The Congress leaders urged the commission to be cautious while recommending the reservations so as to avoid complications in the future. They said it must collect numerical data as well as information on backwardness among the Muslims to avoid legal complications.
Mr Shabbir Ali said that the previous commissions constituted by the Centre and the state governments — headed by Gopala Krishna, Justice Rajinder Sachar, Amitab Kund, Justice Rangandha Misra and Justice Dalwa Subramanyam — had endorsed that the Muslim community was subject to injustice in education, employment and economic activities.
The team urged the commission to extensively tour Muslim dominated localities to get more information on the backwardness in the community. BC panel chairman B.S. Ramulu and other members assured the delegation justice.
