Take up rehabilitation on war footing, says BJP
Chennai: Days after lauding the State Government for taking effective steps in coping with the crisis arising out of the Vardah cyclone the BJP has demanded the government to speed up efforts on relief and rehabilitation measures.
“Though the prompt steps taken by the Government has averted losses in several areas, people continue to face problems owing to traffic snarls and lack of power. The Government should take steps on war-footing and ensure life returned to normalcy in the affected places,” BJP state president Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan said.
Claiming that the need of the hour of was restoration of power supply, she alleged that several areas in the city and suburbs still lacked power.
After the initial soft-pedaling, the saffron party appeared to revert to its agenda on taking on the ruling AIADMK.
Taking pot shots at the AIADMK, she said “perhaps they are so concerned with the activities within the party that they are unable to bestow more attention on relief and restoration post Vardah.” She also claimed that given the present situation it was not known if the government would be able to fully meet the requirement of the people.
“The State Government should act fast and restore normalcy in the areas devastated by the cyclone and also take up appropriate rehabilitation,” Dr. Tamilisai urged.
Meanwhile, State Ministers, AIADMK functionaries and the general public continued to throng the burial site of former Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa to pay their homage and Veena exponent E. Gayathri paid "music” tribute to Jayalalithaa at the site.
