Congress mocks BJP for not aiding post storm work
Chennai: Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) chief Su. Thirunavukkarasar, who had shifted loyalties from BJP, accused the saffron party leaders of doing nothing to clean up the cyclone-hit areas and alleged that the party was not serious about its Swachh Bharat campaign.
Though the BJP leaders has posed for pictures hailing the Swachh Bharat campaign and claimed to transform India, they had done precious little post Vardah cyclone to clean up the affected places, he said.
Thirunavukkarasar said the BJP leaders had used the clean-up drive only for propaganda and photo opportunities and when a need arose for such efforts they did not deliver.
The remark of the state Congress president comes in the wake of civic workers clearing thousands of trees that either got uprooted or fell when Vardah lashed Chennai, Kancheepuram and Tiruvalluvar districts on December 12.
On December 14, two days after the cyclone devastated the three districts, BJP state president Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan had posted a photo in her official twitter account of her party men clearing trees and planting saplings in Virugambakkam — her home constituency.
