Hyderabad: Union minister Ramesh Pokhriyal said that steps are being taken for to uplift the Telugu language. Speaking in Parliament on Monday, he said that steps have been taken to set up Telugu faculties in Hyderabad, Benares and other universities.
He was replying to a question raised by Telugu Desam MP Kesineni Nani, about the steps taken by the central government to protect the regional languages, particularly Telugu. He said that in AP, CM Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s government has made English compulsory and added that there is a need to implement the three language formula.
Reacting to this, the minister said that the Telugu classical development centre of the Central Institute of Indian Languages of Mysore was shifted to Nellore and it has started working from November 13. He said that Telugu as a subject was introduced in Hyderabad Central University, Benares Hindu University, Ali-
garh Muslim University, Delhi University and in the central university newly established in AP.
