New Delhi: It is almost official now the Congress will launch its trump card, Priyanka Gandhi in the upcoming polls in Uttar Pradesh. Hitherto, the role of Ms Priyanka has been confined to the constituencies of Amethi and Rae Barielly.
Following speculations that Ms Priyanka will campaign all over the state for Congress, the party is now in the process of finalising a state-wide programme. It may be noted that of late, she had been actively involved in all background meetings of the Congress in UP.
The campaign committee chief of UP Dr Sanjay Singh said, “Let things settle down first and a concrete plan be finalised. She (Priyanka) will definitely play a major role.”
Speaking on Priyanka’s role, UP Congress chief Raj Babbar had said “It has been decided that she will campaign for the party in the state elections and she too has accepted our request to campaign. Whenever we get her schedule, we will use her time for campaigning accordingly.”
The Congress had earlier allowed leaders to use pictures of Priyanka Gandhi in its posters all over the state. On November 21, party’s president, vice-president and Priyanka Gandhi are expected to be in Allahabad.
Their plan is to inaugurate an exhibition on the centenary celebrations of former Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi. The program is scheduled to be held at the ancestral house of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, Anand Bhawan. Party leaders and members from many states will attend the event.
