Centre follows dual stand on CMB: M Karunanidhi
Chennai: The Union government which refused to appeal against the ban on jallikattu had opposed the verdict of the same court on formation of Cauvery Management Board, DMK chief M. Karunanidhi said and added it showed that the centre's reaction to apex court judgments too would be based on political gains for the BJP.
In his customary question and answers in party organ Murasoli, he said the centre could not be expected on a fair manner in the construction of Megedatu dam also as the Congress and BJP are fighting on the Cauvery issue to win the Assembly elections in Karnataka.
He said Karnataka Chief Minister Siddharamaiah had announced that the construction of the Megedatu dam would begin. Earlier, the Karnataka government had said it wo-uld store water only for the dr-inking water needs of Bengaluru, but now it is saying that ab-out 400 MW of hydro power would be generated through the project.
He also cited a statement of PWD engineers association that no Parliament approval was necessary for forming Cauvery Management Board. The engineers had said the management boards for Krishna, Godavari and Narmada were set up the centre without Parliament app-roval. He also welcomed the declaration in Canada Parliament that Pongal Day would be celebrated in the country as Tamil New Year Day. He also alleged that the government is not maintaining the Anna Library in a proper manner.
