Fight continues over seat sharing within Congress
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:L Even as Congress MP Sudarshan Nachiappan, the returning officer for organisational elections, is expected to arrive in state in a few days, the Congress camp is still divided over the pact between former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and Opposition Leader Ramesh Chennithala to reach a consensus on seat sharing mechanism. Nachiappan is expected to arrive in Thiruvananthapuram on Sunday. Already the two factions have kick started unofficial level group meetings on how should the seat sharing take place.
But this has not gone down well with a section of senior Congress leaders and especially the youth congress and women leaders. They vouch that the constitution of the Indian Congress states that organisational elections should be held right from primary committee level. "Already, AICC's organisational election committee chairman Mullapally Ramachandran had come out with the election guidelines. Despite the KPCC holding membership campaigns, they are yet to publish the membership list. At the same time, election schedule also has not been published which is against Article 8, 9, 10 and 11 of Indian Congress party's constitution", said a DCC president to DC.
The party's constitution envisages that election has to be taken place in the form of voting where the majority of the leaders have to be chosen that way from block committees. But in the primary committee there is no need to have secret ballot as he or she can be chosen by open voting. Another major allegation against the KPCC leadership is that though district returning officers and PRO's are being appointed in all the DCCs, returning officer and polling officers are yet to be appointed. Unfortunately the KPCC leadership is mum on these issues as they claim that they have the right to decide on how to move forth on the organisational revamping by taking all the leaders in to confidence.
