Jagan, Naidu to Hold Meetings with Minority Elders Today

VIJAYAWADA: Separate meetings have been arranged by Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy and Telugu Desam chief N. Chandrababu Naidu with Muslim community elders on the Uniform Civil Code issue.

Jagan Mohan Reddy first announced such a meeting on July 19. For the past few days, the YSRC leaders including deputy CM Amzath Basha were inviting Muslim elders for the meeting.

Meanwhile, the TD also decided to conduct its chief’s interaction with minority elders on July 19 and started inviting minority leaders.

On March 13 this year, the CM conducted a meeting of Muslim leaders and discussed their issues. He assured the Muslim community that he would safeguard their interests and address their problems. Now, he plans a meeting to know the opinions, wishes and demands vis-à-vis the UCC.

The YSRC’s minority leaders contacted the Islamic scholars, community elders and influential minority leaders and invited them for the meeting with CM Jagan Mohan Reddy on Wednesday morning.

They are expected to attend the TD chief’s meeting in the afternoon.
Several minority leaders who got invitations from both the YSRC and TD said they would attend both the meetings. A majority of the minority leaders are against the UCC and they would oppose the central government’s move on this.
